Kauai, also known as the Garden Isle, completely stole my heart on my recent trip. From jaw-dropping landscapes to unforgettable adventures and incredible food, every moment was a dream. Here are some of my top highlights!
If you’re visiting Kauai, a helicopter tour is an absolute must—and going doors-off takes it to the next level.
Flying over the island, I got to witness the lush valleys, cascading waterfalls, and dramatic cliffs of the Napali Coast from an entirely new perspective. Feeling the wind rush past while soaring over Mount Waialeale, one of the wettest spots on Earth, was both exhilarating and humbling.
The adrenaline rush was real, but the views?
Worth every single penny.
Seeing the Napali Coast from the water was just as magical.
The towering cliffs, sea caves, and vibrant blue waters felt straight out of a postcard. The best part? Spotting two Hawaiian monk seals (which are super rare!) and a pod of bottlenose dolphins that swam right alongside our boat. The tour also took us into sea caves and past stunning waterfalls that plunged straight into the ocean.
Being out on the water with the sun shining and the breeze in my hair was an experience I’ll never forget.
Nicknamed the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific,” Waimea Canyon is a must-see.
The drive up is filled with scenic overlooks, each one more breathtaking than the last. The deep reds and lush greens of the canyon made it feel like I was in another world. We made several stops to take in the views, and each one felt like a scene from a movie.
If you have time, hiking through the canyon is another way to fully appreciate its beauty.
This charming North Shore town had such a laid-back, surfer-town vibe that made me want to stay forever. Hanalei Bay’s golden beaches and turquoise waters were breathtaking, perfect for relaxing or paddleboarding.
The town itself is full of locally owned boutiques, art galleries, and farm-to-table restaurants. One of my favorite moments was watching the sunset from the Hanalei Pier—it was pure magic.
This lively, eclectic town on the east side of the island quickly became one of my favorites.
It has a mix of boho surf shops, funky boutiques, and an impressive food truck scene. The Kapaa Bike Path (Ke Ala Hele Makalae) runs along the coastline and is a beautiful way to explore the area. I loved the mix of locals and visitors—it felt like a true community hub.
Located near Poipu, Koloa has an old plantation charm that makes it feel like stepping back in time.
The historic Koloa Town is full of quaint storefronts, and the vibe is peaceful and inviting. It’s also home to some of the best local eats on the island. I loved strolling through the little shops, learning about the area’s sugar plantation history, and, of course, grabbing some amazing food.
One of the best parts of any trip is discovering amazing food, and Kauai did not disappoint! From fresh seafood to delicious baked goods, here are some of my top foodie spots:
Located in Poipu, this restaurant felt like a hidden oasis with its lush tropical setting, tiki torches, and live music. Their fresh seafood was phenomenal—I had the macadamia nut-crusted mahi mahi, and it was chef’s kiss. Don’t skip the hula pie for dessert!
A must-visit for coffee lovers and pastry enthusiasts. Everything here is made fresh, and you can taste the difference. Their macadamia nut lattes were heavenly, and the avocado toast on homemade sourdough was one of my favorite breakfasts on the island.
This tiny, unassuming spot serves some of the best poke bowls I’ve ever had. The fish was incredibly fresh, and the flavors were unreal. I tried the Hawaiian-style ahi poke with a side of mac salad, and it was pure perfection. If you’re a seafood lover, this place is a must.
Shave ice is a Kauai staple, and Waikomo does it right. They use all-natural syrups made from fresh fruit, which makes a huge difference. I got the lilikoi (passion fruit) and coconut combo, and it was so refreshing after a long day in the sun.
A hidden gem in Kapaa, this spot had some of the best bagels I’ve ever had. The taro bagel with homemade cream cheese was next-level good, and their croissants were flaky and buttery perfection.
This was a dream spot for plant-based eats! Their BBQ jackfruit sandwich and taro burger were both delicious, and their smoothies were packed with fresh island fruits. It’s a great option if you’re looking for something fresh and healthy.
This spot is all about the vibes. Located right on the beach, you can enjoy your meal with your toes in the sand while listening to live music. Their tropical cocktails were amazing (highly recommend the mai tai!), and the fish tacos were bursting with flavor. It was the perfect way to end a beautiful day on the island.
Kauai was everything I dreamed of and more. The mix of adventure, relaxation, and delicious food made it an unforgettable trip. Whether you’re soaring above the island in a helicopter, boating along the Napali Coast, or simply enjoying a sunset dinner by the ocean, there’s something about Kauai that just sticks with you.
If you ever get the chance to visit, be sure to add these spots to your list!
