I wish that I could tell you that once the hype of your engagement starts to settle, you are set until your wedding. However, there are a few things that I have learned as a California-based Wedding Photographer that might just help you!

ONE | GET YOUR RING INSURED + PROPERLY SIZED

Listen, accidents happen!

The other day, I heard a story about a soon-to-be bride, who went to throw her gum out of her car window as she was driving. Her ring, being a size too big, flew off and found its way into the sewer drain.

It happens! But, it is important to be prepared!

TWO | START THINKING ABOUT YOUR DATE

You have a little bit of wiggle room as far as your date goes. Meaning, it isn’t going to be the end of the world IF you don’t know the “when” right away. Please note, though, that popular dates can book out 1 – 2 years in advance!

You also need to keep both sides’ parties into consideration when choosing a date.

THREE | AGREE ON A BUDGET

You can’t book a single thing until you know what you both are okay spending. Anything related to finances can offer lead to some stressed feelings… So, the sooner you can hash this part out, the better.

Make sure to chat with your families. Figure out if you are getting support from them, or if you are going to front the purchases yourself.

FOUR | PLAN AN ENGAGEMENT PARTY

Over the past few years, it has felt like engagement parties were starting to take a backseat. However, it is looking like in 2023, these parties are going to be the hot, new fad. As someone who loves a good engagement party, I have to say that I am so excited for them to start getting the hype they deserve again!

FIVE | RELAX + RECONNECT

Once you have gotten all of the pressing matters out of the way, take some time to relax and reconnect as a couple. You are about to make one of the biggest steps as a couple, and it is important that the two of you enjoy every second of it.

Wedding planning will get stressful at times. Be sure to set aside time to reconnect.
