Being a wedding photographer in sunny California is a dream job for many, but what goes on behind the lens on a regular day when there’s no wedding to capture? Join me on a virtual journey as I take you through the daily life of a SLO wedding photographer.
The day begins at 8 am, not too early for this photographer. A freshly brewed cup of coffee is a must, and I’m a French Press with 1/2 and 1/2 kind of gal. And, the morning routine also includes making sure Maggie, our adorable mini Aussie, is well-fed and ready for the day.
The morning hours are dedicated to emails and the meticulous organization of tasks in Dubsado. Contracts are sent out, and various administrative duties are taken care of during this time.
My hyper-fixation meal is a breakfast burrito, setting the tone for the day. Fueled and ready, it’s time to embark on the next activity.
A 1-2 mile walk with Maggie is not just a routine but a delightful break to enjoy the California weather and gather inspiration from the surroundings.
Furthermore, the afternoon is a mix of professional and personal tasks. Editing, content creation for newsletters and blogs, social media management, administrative work, building timelines, vendor communications, and venue tours fill the work hours.
Personal tasks such as working out, running errands, grocery shopping, and attending appointments are seamlessly woven into the day.
A post-work stroll with Maggie provides a refreshing break and a chance to clear the mind before the evening activities.
Feeding both myself and Maggie is a priority, ensuring we are well-nourished for the rest of the day.
evenings are dedicated to completing any remaining emails, projects, or editing tasks. Also, if Andrew is home, it’s an opportunity to unwind on the couch and indulge in our favorite shows.
A reasonable bedtime of 10 PM ensures a good night’s sleep, essential for maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Striking the right balance between work and relaxation is key to sustaining the passion for wedding photography.
Without a doubt, The flexibility of being a business owner allows me to tailor my days to my preferences.
Whether it’s a productive workday or a much-needed rest day, I am grateful for the ability to choose how I spend my time. Being a SLO wedding photographer isn’t just a job; it’s a fulfilling lifestyle that brings joy and satisfaction every day.
