San Luis Obispo Wedding Photographer Marriage Advice

As my husband and I celebrate eight years of marriage, June 21, 2013, I thought it might be fun to share some marriage advice on how we have made our love thrive.

In the world that we live in, eight years of marriage is a decent chunk of time! I am not sure how he has put up with me and my antics for so long, but I am very grateful and blessed!

Tip #1: KNOW EACH OTHER’S LOVE LANGUAGES

If I had to narrow down this list to only one, this is the one I would choose!

Love Languages are so important! If you don’t know or understand what they are, I highly recommend the book that I will link HERE.

Surprisingly, Andrew and I just recently learned this and it is a game-changer.

Mine is Acts of Service

Andrew’s is Physical Touch

During the hardest of days, if your spouse can show you the kind of love that resonates with your soul, you will have a stronger relationship.

Tip # 2: TALK OPENLY ABOUT YOUR GOALS

What do you want to accomplish in your life? Do you have dreams as a couple? Ensuring that you and your spouse are on the same page, talk about these types of questions!

When you’re married, it is so easy to get lost in the mundane every days of life! You often lose sight of your goals.

When you both are aware of the dreams you have for yourself and your relationship, you are able to hold each other accountable.

Tip #3: MAKE SURE YOU ARE HAVING DATE NIGHT AT LEAST EVERY 2 WEEKS

You must be thinking, “Michele, I know this! I have heard it 1 million times!” When is the last time you had date night? If it hasn’t been too long than that’s so exciting!

However, if you don’t KEEP making it a priority, date nights will slowly get put on the back burner.

So do your best to set aside a day date or night out at least once every 2 weeks – once a week if you can!

Our lives are busy, but setting aside quality time with your partner will help you stay connected. As you continue “dating” you will constantly keep finding out more and more about your spouse.

Need some simple date ideas? Try these!

Remember, you both are human! Try to give each other grace often and focus on the love you share! Keep in mind that marriage advice can only get you so far! You have to implement it to get the results you want!

We are cheering for you!

Thank you to Kelley Williams Photography for these images. Loved getting some anniversary photos done with our new pup last year! And thanks to The White Barn for hosting us. One of my favorite wedding venues.
