Engagement photos are more than just pictures; they are memories captured in time, reflecting the essence of a couple’s journey. For Rita and Jon, selecting the perfect location for their engagement shoot was an easy decision.

They chose a place that was not only beautiful but also deeply meaningful to them: Cuesta Ridge.

This scenic spot in San Luis Obispo County has been the backdrop for many of their shared adventures, from star-lit camping nights to serene evening picnics.

The Magic of Engagements at Cuesta Ridge

Cuesta Ridge isn’t just any picturesque location; it holds a treasure trove of memories for Rita and Jon. The ridge has witnessed their laughter, conversations, and silent moments under the vast sky. This profound connection to the place made it an obvious choice when they started planning their engagement photos.

The blend of natural beauty and personal significance brought their love story to life in a way that only Cuesta Ridge could.

GETTING TO THE SPOT

Accessing Cuesta Ridge requires a bit of an adventure, which only adds to its charm.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to reach this stunning location:

  1. Drive on the 101: Start your journey on Highway 101.
  2. Truck Pull-Off: Look for a truck pull-off on the west side of the freeway as you reach the top.
  3. The Ascent: Exit here and follow the road upwards. It’s a lengthy drive, winding up the ridge.
  4. Vehicle Recommendation: Although the road is monitored, it’s best to have a 4-wheel-drive vehicle with good tires and brakes. The terrain can be challenging, so take it slow and enjoy the journey.

Reaching Cuesta Ridge is an experience in itself. The effort required to get there ensures that you’re greeted by tranquility and unspoiled beauty, making it the perfect spot for an intimate photo session.

THE PERFECT TIMING

Timing is crucial for capturing the perfect engagement photos. Rita and Jon opted for the golden hour, the magical period just before sunset when the light is soft and golden.

Here’s how we planned it:

  • Start the Drive: We began their drive around 6:20 PM at the end of April.
  • Golden Hour: Arriving in time for the golden hour, we were able to capture the ridge bathed in warm, golden light.
  • Epic Sunset: We stayed until nearly 8 PM, taking advantage of the stunning sunset that painted the sky in vibrant hues.

The golden hour provided a dreamy backdrop for their photos, highlighting their connection and the natural beauty of Cuesta Ridge.
