Time to Plan for your Photo Shoot

There are a lot of pieces to put together as you plan for your next photo shoot. You need to find a photographer you’re comfortable with and think of a location. Then you plan outfits, maybe even shop for outfits, make sure your hair and makeup are on point, make sure the family won’t be hungry, you need to take time off of work, and drive to a location. And then you hope and pray the weather is perfect and you get that golden California light. It is a lot! And some things you can control and others are just beyond your control.

Here are our top 4 Do’s & Don’ts as you plan your next photoshoot

  • Don’t overthink how you’ll look in photos. You are beautiful just the way you are! You are living life! Give yourself some grace by loving every bit of yourself.
    • Do wear clothes that make you feel confident and sexy!
  • Don’t eat foods high in sodium and avoid alcohol at least 24 hours before your session.
    • Do drink lots of water and be hydrated. Your skin will radiate and glow the more hydrated you are! Tip: if you are nervous, I do recommend bringing a shot or two with you to enjoy at the beginning of our session together.
  • Don’t try new skincare or makeup routines as you may break out.
    • Do splurge and get your makeup done by a professional artist. Or if it isn’t in the budget, do your own hair and makeup, but go a little bolder and heavier. Sparkle never hurt either!
  • Don’t stress about the weather.
    • Do trust your photographer and embrace the weather you get. We are pretty spoiled here in California, but if we get some wind or even some rain, it will be OK!

This engagement session took place at the Madonna Inn Secret Garden. A very unique and iconic spot in the heart of San Luis Obispo. If you ever have a chance, be sure to stop by the property and grab a slice of cake. The pink champagne is their signature! Or go have dinner at the steakhouse or a relaxing afternoon at the pool and spa.
